Chrysalis is a practice-based inquiry into how computational media can hold the ancestral weight that textile craft has carried across generations of women in my family. The work takes the form of a walk-in cocoon, eight and a half feet tall, hand-built from CNC-cut wood and wrapped in soft textile layers, designed as a site for emotional and reflective engagement.
Inside the structure, a central screen holds three light-sensor points that trace a maternal lineage across grandmother, mother, and daughter; visitors awaken each generation by aiming their phone flashlights at the corresponding point, which triggers a short film generated with Stable Diffusion and gradually reveals a narrative of suppression, communication, and release.
Outside the cocoon, a Kinect tracks the body's silhouette and pulls it into a real-time projection, where Physarum textures and electric edges built in TouchDesigner with GLSL respond to every shift of weight.
The piece investigates how digital fabrication, generative AI, and embodied interaction can be brought into dialogue with feminist craft traditions, and how computational tools might support emotional reflection.
