NightN-ARTech Lights Show was held at City Center in Newport News, Virginia, developed with IWG Productions. The work wraps a forty-foot tree in LED lights and turns its surface into a screen for synchronized motion graphics. I designed four animations of two to three minutes each, choreographed to a set of songs, working through the specific constraints of low-resolution LED display and three-dimensional projection onto a conical, walk-around form. The process involved continuous translation between what looked right on screen and what actually read on the tree at night, with patterns mirrored, recolored, and re-timed across a week of on-site testing. Color work and sparkle effects were tuned in xLights to keep the imagery legible from every angle. The project explores how motion graphics behave when they leave the rectangular frame entirely and live on an irregular, physical, public-facing surface.
